Shepard Smith’s departure from Fox News seemed to be a shock for all. His tenure of many years came to a halt after a personal decision. Many claim that President Trump had a hand in his leaving, but I don’t see that to be the cause since Smiths own lawyer also disagreed with that notion. Overall, Smith is happy to be spending time with his family and looks forward to the time when he can practice his craft in the distance future; due to a non-compete clause in his 2018 contract with Fox News.

Des Moines Register Case: Response
After learning about the Des Moines Register Case, I was torn in my feelings towards it. On one hand I would say it is right to know the whole story about someone so you can be aware of whom you are supporting. But on the other hand, how far is too far? I think the reporter went a little too far back, after all he said that when he was a teenager and has grown up.
I’m not sure if the paper was right in firing, because after all he was just doing his job. But since the man already commented and apologized for his comments, the man should have regarded that and left it out.
If I were the reporter I would not have printed the profile, especially since he had some of his own racist comments, thus deeming his information hypocritical. Overall, I thought that there needs to be a sense of “will this help or will this hurt”.
Leads and Nut Grafs: Response
I read the article Strong from the start: leads and nut grafs and found quite a few interesting new things! Sometimes you can get stuck on writing a lead and are unsure of what to do. When in doubt, go to the basics! Ask who, what, when, where, and how! Also, try not to cover your lead with a lot of “mush” and “setting the scene”, make sure you get straight to the point. Not only that, make sure that you have one, solid, clear point! A way to do that is by “saying what is, not what isn’t”!
Something else I learned that was new about a nut graf was explained by Roy Peter Clark, ” The nut graf is used when the lead is anecdotal or indirect.” Another thing was that a nut graf has to flow, it can’t just be like a big batch of flour you hit when eating a brownie!
